Our Mission

The San Francisco Wind Symphony was founded as the San Francisco Wind Ensemble in 2012. It is a wind ensemble at the professional level, comprised of some of the leading musicians in the Bay Area

In addition to its annual concert series, the ensemble strives to offer a variety of community engagement activities, arts education services, and composer collaborations: providing such performances at little to no cost to local student musicians.

We invite you to attend future concerts and to become a supporter of SFWS. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Our History

In early 2012, Artistic Director Martin Seggelke set out on a daunting task: to create a professional-level wind ensemble on the West Coast. After months of careful research and recruitment among the Bay Area's finest musicians, a fully instrumented, 50-member San Francisco Wind Ensemble first convened in October 2012 for the first concert of its inaugural season of four concerts.

In the short time since, the since renamed San Francisco Wind Symphony has developed an ever-expanding reputation for providing top-notch performances of both classic and seldom-heard wind ensemble literature. As noted by the Classical Voice, "The SFWS struck gold, won me over, and convinced me that (they are) a very valuable addition to the Bay Area's musical landscape."
